MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 08, 2008 09:00 PM, CDT It was great having dinner with you and the heart team the other night. Everyone was relaxed, yet goofy with the cameras.
You may not feel it, but your appear incredibly strong. Keep that strength, as you await your pet scan results. I hope and pray for a positive result.
MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 08, 2008 10:49 PM, CDT Dear John,
This letter is long overdue. I had been hoping and praying that things would get so good that I could take all of your off my prayer list.
Sandy Curtis and I have been friends through the Episcopal Diocese of Rochester. I contacted her last spring about St. James’ Kisima Education Project, which I decided would be a great place to donate from my income task rebate check. Sandy always keeps me informed about the D’Sousa Family. It was then that I was shocked to hear about your David.
It makes no sense. This beautiful young man who always remembered me even if it had been so many years since we’d met. This sensitive young man who trained with Dr. Henry Hess, also my doctor, who spoke so highly of the extra care David gave to his patients. This son of yours and Satira, the brother of John Jr. and Renee, the boy who grew up at the same time of this well – remembered by the Garman brothers. This gift of God to the world and to medicine. What can I say? I feel helpless.
David and you, his parents have been on St. Mark’s Penn Yan prayer list ever since Sandy told me. Weds. I called St. Mark’s prayer circle and started more prayers for him, you and Satira. Of course, I am praying for all of you every single day over and over. I wish I could do more.
May you feel God’s presence through all the hundred of prayers you must be getting every day.

It just makes me ache to hear that you are having such a hard time with your treatments! You are really missed at OSF and we think of you often. I am praying that you can feel some comfort and get the much needed rest to regain your strength! Know that the whole heart team is pulling for you and are here if you need anything! We'll have to plan another evening out when you are feeling better, since I wasn't able to make the last one! Keep looking up Dr. D!
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 16, 2008 08:38 PM, CDT The gang in PACU miss you and are hoping you're feeling better with each passing minute. Many prayers and much love going your way!!
Just checking out your caringbridge site. I miss you and I am praying for you. You come up often in my thoughts and, in fact, I was just thinking of you with all this financial crisis. You told me a couple of times how you invested your money and I, of course, thought you were missing the boat. Now I am thinking you were right. Oh well, its just money. I see you have Super Parish Nurse on your case - good for you - I think. Hope to see you at that Associate get together Sept 25th. Take care Dave - Bill Hauter
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 2008 03:47 PM, CDT Hey Dr. D,
It's been a while, but you have never been far from my thoughts. I'm glad to see the support you have, and only wish I could be there too! I've always wanted to see the hot air balloons in NM--sounds like an awesome trip. I hope you have a great time, and I hope you have many many many more good days and fewer fewer bad days.
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 2008 07:45 PM, CDT Oh David, We are so sorry to hear about Kelly's stroke. This must have been anguishing for you, but I know you are relieved he is recovering. SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 2008 12:57 PM, CDT Dear David, Long ago on Emerald Hill there lived a charmed family. Their children were beautiful, bright and devoted to the parents who adored them. Everything they did was focused on living a good life and becoming the best adults they could be. Their neighbors across the street admired this model family and hoped their own children would follow their example. Many years have passed but we from #2 still have the fondest feelings for the family from #9. We have stayed in touch and followed their successes. But life is not a fairy tale on a hill, at least not forever. There are losses that follow wins and we learn how little control we actually bring to the game. If there were thoughts or words that could be our magic wands we would be something other than mortal. Memories, however, are incredibly powerful, as are caring and love. We can depend on that. Julie, John and Sarah want me to send their thoughts to you as well as mine, and our love.
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, 2008 10:48 AM, CDT Hey David, I'm glad we all have this journal to keep us updated on your progress, but the next time you are in town I want to hear from you myself! Let me know when you're planning to come back to Rochester so we can get together again. Good luck with the next chemo treamtment, keep fighting!
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, 2008 02:27 PM, CDT Hi David,
We are constantly in touch with your mother and keeping track of your progress. Just wanted to let you know that you are in our thoughts and prayers daily. I know that going through those chemo sessions are not easy but have faith and ask the good Lord to hold you in his hands. Just take one day at a time as that is what we all have to do.
Adolf and I leave for Italy this Thursday and while in Rome at the Vatican I will pray for you. Keep positive and keep fighting and just remember we all love you very much and are behind you all the way.
